Psychiatric consulation of young female rape victims


Abstract
Nine female rape victims under the age of 14 were studied. All had been referred from the department of gynecology and plastic surgery to the department of neuropsychiatry, Kyung-Hee Unversity Hospital, between March, 1987 and February, 1989.
@ES The following characteristics wee noted:
@EN 1. The locations of the attacks were at their homes or in the near vicinity.
2. The victims were typically slender, with small physiques.
3. More than half the attacks occureed during the winter season and between 13:00 and 20:00.
4. Physical examinations revealed indications that the female genitalia was penetrated by a male penis or other foreign bodies.
5. Physical examinations also revealed vaginal lacerations, vaginal bleedings, multiple body abrasions, strangle indications around the neck, but psychological problems that could have been expected were not prominent.
6. Most victims were more concerned about missing academic activities than the actual incident. Parents were greatly affected emotionally, and showed anxiety about their children's future. In consulation, care was taken to relieve parental
anxiety.
7. Although victim's parents had originally agreed to follow-up study for psychologic problems, they later refused all follow-up victims.
